Arun Tandon, owner of Advanced Health Pharmacy in Michigan, has partnered with a local nonprofit organization to obtain 2,500 Covid-19 vaccine doses. Tandon is using this supply to vaccinate his local underserved community, reaching people based on their social determinants of health. His goal is to vaccinate people who have health care barriers such as language, transportation, or other socioeconomic factors.

The FDA granted marketing authorization to the BioFire Respiratory Panel 2.1 (RP2.1), making it the first diagnostic test to achieve this status under the traditional premarket review process. RP2.1 is a nasal swab test that can be used on patients with symptoms of respiratory tract infections. The FDA granted this authorization after analyzing data from a clinical study with over 500 samples that demonstrated reasonable assurance for safety and efficacy.

The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has released an amendment to the COVID-19 Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness (PREP) Act, effective March 11. The amendment now authorizes retired pharmacists and pharmacy interns to help administer vaccinations for COVID-19. Retired pharmacists who have previously held an active license in any state within the last 5 years, remaining in good standing prior to retirement, can now give the shot. Pharmacy interns with appropriate training and supervision are also authorized to do so.
